As a photographer I tend to get pretty attached to my clients. The Lux Family is one of those families… almost 4 years ago The Lux Family was the first family to meet us at our new home in Franklin, Minnesota. Adam and I had literally just moved in a few days before their sessions… I was 8 months pregnant, we had no furniture, bare walls and boxes everywhere. If I recall they viewed their photos on a folding table. We were young and they were so sweet, so supportive and so understanding.
As we got things unpacked and finally got to decorating I made a decision to put a large collage of photos in our office. I made one of the Lux’s family photos AS BIG AS I COULD POSSIBLY FIT ON THE WALL. They gave me the ideal image to look at everyday- the ultimate definition of a sweet, loving family… what we all aim for. And also the ultimate reminder of where we started from moving to Franklin, Mn.
I have watched the Lux’s family journey unfold online the last few years- I watched the kids grow and the family change. This summer the Lux Family lost their father Jeff to cancer. My heart broke for them- it ached. Every single day I would look at that canvas and say “I have to drive up to Hutchinson and give this to them.”
Stacey contacted us recently to participate in our Mommy and Me Mini Sessions and I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE EXCITED! It was so great to see the kids. (Please forgive me for forgetting my camera). I was SO NERVOUS! This beautiful family had been through so much I just wanted it to be a GOOD SESSION and it was! At the end of the session with my heart thumbing in my chest I gave Stacey and the kids the canvas that hung on our wall. I cried… and it takes allot for me to cry. I have never seen kids so strong and grateful! You can see they cherished every single moment they had with their dad. (hand me a tissue- crying now writing this).
We all ran up the hill and took one last quick photo with their family canvas <3
I might have a blank spot on our office wall for a while and for the best reason in the whole wide world. This is a day I will never forget, quite like the day I first meet them.
Here are a few photos from their session tonight <3
